The Vellore Kamban Kazhagam has conferred the award, ‘Mahalir Dhuruva Nakshathiram' (the pole star of women) on Usha Nandini, founder of the Bharat Amma Social Service Organisation, Vellore, for ‘Best Social Service for Women'.
Dato M. Saravanan, Deputy Minister of the Federal Territories, Malaysia, presented the award to Ms. Usha Nandini at the Vellore Kamban Vizha (Vellore Kamban Festival)- 2011 organised by the Vellore Kamban Kazhagam at the Voorhees College here on Friday.
G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT University, Suki Sivam, orator and L. Ganesan, member of the National Executive Committee of the Bharathiya Janata Party, participated in the function. Nalli Kuppusamy Chettiar inaugurated the Vellore Kamban Trust.
President of theTirupur Kamban Kazhagam K.R. Nagarajan, welcomed the gathering.
